Foundation begun

Here is the footprint of the house and garage. The truck with the forms for the foundation was parked up there, as well, so the foundation should be poured shortly.

This is what we will be looking at from the front of our house.  This land is not to be developed so we should always have a nice wooded view.

This is what the view from our driveway should be.  It will be interesting to see how the driveway is graded.  Right now, it is a steep climb!
This is the house next door to us, which is about 2-3 weeks ahead of us in construction.  Also, this is similar to what our house will look like, so it gives a good preview of the construction to come.

Lainey at the lake

Eventually, Lainey woke up and enjoyed a dip in the lake.

More Excavation

So we couldn't help ourselves but to drive out (twice in fact!) to the site again to see more progress. It is amazing how much changes quickly once they get going!

This was at about 9:30 a.m.

And this was at about 6 p.m.....do we have the beginnings of a driveway?

Lots more excavation since yesterday!

Are they digging our foundation here?
The plan is to drive again tonight (and probably for the next few days) to document the progress. Fingers crossed for no rain so they can really move things along.

House Update

You may remember we are building a house.  I haven't been lax on the updates, there just hasn't been much to share, but finally, excavation has begun!  I can't begin to tell you how many times we have driven by, hoping to see some progress, and finally, dirt has been moved!

A lot more excavation has to happen to our lot, but apparently this is enough of a beginning for the foundation to be dug and poured, which we have heard may happen this week (weather dependent of course).

The foundation for the house next door went in about 2 weeks ago and that house is already framed and they have begun work on the roof, so if all goes well, we should really start to see some progress this month on our house.  And then the fun can begin.  We should be choosing the color of our siding very soon.  This weekend we plan to go look at lighting and flooring.  I've visited the kitchen vendor and we'll meet with them to make our kitchen selections, as well as order our appliances once the house is progressing a little more.  After the house is framed, we will meet with the electrician and walk through to see what electrical options come standard and which options we would like to upgrade.  And we are thinking lots about colors for the walls for the painter.  Lots of decisions, but hopefully our house will seem like more of a reality over the next few weeks!

Lake fun

After our bike ride, we needed to cool off, so we went down to the lake for a swim. Lainey took a nice snooze at first and Ken and Colin practiced swimming.

8 Months Old!

Lainey turned 8 months old this weekend.  She has 4 teeth, crawls faster and faster every day, wants to feed herself and is loving almost everything new she tries.  She pulls herself up to standing, giggles, babbles, and is generally a great sleeper.  She is almost always happy and loves, loves, loves her big brother!

Trailer for two

We took our first family bike ride since Alaina arrived over Memorial Day weekend. The kids did well in the trailer next to each other and even fell asleep leaning on each other by the end of the ride...unfortunately when we stopped so I could try to get a picture of them, they both woke up.
